Rocky Mountain Birch + Magpie Ornament

Rocky Mountain Birch Magpie Ornament

I was asked to update my birch tree ornament with magpies

At first I worried about the detail I could include. Normally I paint tiny cardinals in the trees.
But with the right brushes and applicators, I was able to add a lot of detail! Tiny blue wings and white accents are very tiny in this ornament.
This ornament can be purchased at Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Sketch

Rocky Mountain Birch Magpie Ornament Sketch

Tiny birds sit in the thin branches of birch trees. They're painted all the way around the ornament, even with the tiniest details.

The Prototype

Rocky Mountain Birch Magpie Ornament

This design starts off just like my birch + cardinal ornament, with the white trunk and branches of the birch tree. The birds take several steps, with a black body shape, blue flight feathers and tail, and white accents. I use my smallest brushes and applicator tips to paint these tiny birds.
